Common sleep paralysis

I would love to understand what is happening to me. My girlfriend and I were on a trip. On our first night, I woke up and watched in horror at a dark figure wearing a black hood. She had no facial features but I noticed that the figure was staring at me, straight into the depths of my soul. I tried to get my friend's attention and wake her up but I couldn't speak, shout or move. I have no idea what it was but in the morning when I started to explain to my friend what I saw that night, she finished my sentence and described the exact same figure kneeling next to a chair that was next to her bed. To this day I don't understand how two people can see and experience the same thing? This has been bothering me for several years?
